HONG KONG GALLERY

OVERView

Streams Gallery is proud to present EDO2REIWA: SHISHIDOMIA Solo Exhibition.

Japan has always been an fascinating originator of “Old-meets-New” visual shocks. Further out extending and exploring this concept, enter SHISHIDOMIA’s imaginative world where time travellers from Edo Japan come to visit the modern world, creating new identities through technology and fashion while never forgetting their Yamato roots. In this series of clashes between Edogawa traditions and Neo-Tokyo street sensibilities, SHISHIDOMIA celebrates modern cultural diversity and social harmony, and tributes to her rich Japanese-Colombian cultural background.

Artists

Shishidomia

Sayuri, the founder of SHISHIDOMIA is a Japanese artist with strong Latin American roots. Her childhood swayed within the beauty and richness of the Japanese and Colombian cultures; a mixture of flavors and colors that awoke a true passion for art and its power to convey deep social and personal feelings. This effervescent drive led to her enrollment at the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Senior High School of Fine Arts, culminating in her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Textile Art & Design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan. While still in college, Sayuri was awarded The Barbara Shapiro Award for excellence by the New Beat International textile art competition in Oaxaca, Mexico. Shortly after graduation, Sayuri moved to the US to pursue a career as a pop art artist and textile designer. She is currently fully dedicated to the creation of modern culture relevant art and the launch of her clothing line.
